Viele kennen und lieben die Bücher von Raymond Smullyan, beispielsweise Chess Mysteries of Sherlock Holmes. Nun hat Andrew Buchanan auf ein Buch aus dem Jahre 2000 (!) aufmerksam gemacht, das im Stile Smullyans verfasst ist und frei zugänglich im Internet zum Lesen und Herunterladen zur Verfügung steht: Sherlock Holmes Visits the Chameleon Chess Club: Further Adventures in Retrograde Chess Analysis von Bill Murden mit einem Vorwort noch von Raymond Smullyan.
“Natürlich” in Englisch, aber das lohnt sicher zu lesen, darin zu schmökern.

I was disappointed by the book, because of tricks like turning the board and letting black pawns promote to white officers.
This book, and Smullyan’s earlier books, seem written without knowledge of retro problems as we know them; thus Smullyan re-found a last move problem, published earlier by Jan Mortensen, and Murden re-invents the condition bi-chromatic chess, calling it hetero-chromatic.
Still, if the books can inspire chess players to take an interest in the wonderful retro world, I guess it is fine.
